Oh, we’ll share everything!

But that might not make sense.

I know authors who find their AllhqFashion Womens PU Assorted Color Hookandloop Open Toe HighHeels Sandals White DY7O9F
are very different, and which of you has the right or the authority to make final editorial decisions?

You can avoid any awkwardness by agreeing your proposed model for co-authoring abook right at the outset. Here are the three ways I’ve found to bemost workable when it comes to writing a co-authored, collaborative book:

Sometimes the simplest model is simply to split and separate the work between you.Co-create the outline and allocate outthe chapters that best fit your expertise and experience (and interest!).

Let each co-author havea free rein with their respective chapters. Celebrate yourdifferences, even name the chapter author as you would in an anthology .

Sure, you can comment on each other’s work, but don’t take the voice out of the work, don’t try to make the writing sound the same, give (and accept) constructive questions and suggestions, but don’t force joint editorial judgements.

is a great example of a book that was written like this. The authors havea good rhythm, they take different aspects of the topic and there seems to be no sense of overlap or divergence in the content.

Pros : You both have creative freedom to write your best work and contribute your ideas to the project without watering them down forsomeone else.

Cons : You might find some overlap in the content, or that you take different approaches in the teaching. It can be hard to know this in advancebut it will need to be managed as it comes up.

How to make it work for you : Spend some time on the outline. Do an overview together and then have each author précis what they want to say. Review this together so you have the same degree of depth and you’ve checked thatthere’s little or no overlap.

How to make it work for you

You don’t have to have a common structure within the chapters, but it willhelp the reader if you do. At the very least, you want a common structure for your chapters.

Agree a process for light comments on each other’s chapters — and a solutionif it turns out your approaches are very different.

Do take a light touch with your partner though — it’s OK for you to havedifferent perspectives on yourtopic and you can be explicit about this with thereader. What’s more important is that thereader can see where(and why) you diverge and understands that you still have his or herbest interests at heart (getting back to those shared values.)

Alternatively, you can split the work by splitting the writing and creative process .

In this model, one person will take responsibility at each stage. So, for example, one of you might outline, the other might Seychelles Womens Future Dress Sandal Cognac SXAN4QtXK
, meanwhilethe first author might come back into the project to do a final edit, additions oramendments.

A headline feature of SourceTree 1.3 is the support for submodules (in Git) and subrepositories (in Mercurial). The terms may be different, but they refer to the same concept; that of nesting other repositories within the folder structure of your own repository. The most common reason for wanting to do this is that your project has dependencies on other code bases (libraries for example), and you want to track those from their original sources rather than duplicating the files within your own repository.

For the sake of brevity from here on I’ll use the term ‘submodule’ to mean ‘subrepository’ as well, unless I’m talking about a Mercurial-specific feature.

Adding a new submodule to your project is simple, just right-click on a blank area of the sidebar and select ‘New Submodule’ (or select it from the Repository menu).

You’ll then be prompted to provide a source URL to clone the contents from, and the path within the current repository that this submodule will reside. Once the submodule has cloned, you’ll see it appear in the sidebar like this:

This tells you that your submodule is located in dependencies/sub1 and is currently on the ‘master’ branch. If you wanted to see more detail about the submodule, just double-click on it to open it in its own repository window, from which you can, if you like, make changes to it just like any other repository. Submodule entries can also have annotations to let you know if there are uncommitted changes in the submodule (ellipsis annotation, i.e. ‘…’), or incoming / outgoing changes (up/down arrow).

In this case you’ve just added the submodule, but it’s not actually committed yet. You’ll see in the file status view that a couple of entries have been staged:

In Mercurial, there will be a “.hgsub” file instead but the principle is the same. These uncommitted changes represent the addition of the submodule to your repository, and you must commit push them as you would do with any other change. Once you’ve done this, anyone cloning the repository will also get the submodule, at the same commit.

Submodules are likely to be more static than your own main repository, but there are still several tasks related to them that you may want to do:

Change the submodule commit which your repository is tracking

Submodules are pinned at a given commit, so that you always get the expected version of the submodule contents. If there are new changes in the submodule which you want to use in your repository, all you have to do is open the submodule (double-click) and checkout/update to a different commit, either via pull, merge or just manually checking a commit out – just as you would do normally with any other repository. Once you have done this, return to the parent repository and you will see an uncommitted change on the submodule, which will show in the diff the change in tracked commit:

To be clear (since this post seems to suggest otherwise), the paper states what the population is on the very first page of the main text (not just in the SI): “[W]e constructed a de-identified dataset that includes 10.1 million active U.S. users who self-report their ideological affiliation and 7 million distinct Web links (URLs) shared by U.S. users over a 6-month period between July 7, 2014 and January 7, 2015.” Clarks Perri Coast Women’s Sandals Pink Fuchsia Leather BrFkky

Sampling on the dependent variable is crappy social science, whether you state the original sample (note: not population) on the first page or not, or whether it’s in the supplementary appendix or not. It’s something every first year grad student in sociology, demography, and political science learns, or at least should.

Dean Eckles 05.07.15 at 9:02 pm

@krippendorf : In what sense is this sampling on the dependent variable (this has a specific technical meaning)? Maybe draw a causal directed acyclic graph illustrating what you think is wrong here.

adam.smith 05.07.15 at 9:22 pm

Dean — yes, this isn’t selecting on the dependent variable, but it also is not just non-random sampling, but non-random sampling with a very plausibly very strong sampling bias, which isn’t acknowledged anywhere in the paper. Meanwhile, as Eszter points out, the paper does make very strong claims about the entire population of US Facebook users.

Moreover, while you’re correct that the size and the basic methodology of the sample are stated, specifics of the sampling methodology are not–but that’s what’s really crucial for understanding to what degree we should believe any statement that goes beyond the 10million people actually covered by the study. In other words, this information is crucial for understanding whether the central claims of the study are true. The fact that that information isn’t included in the study is, indeed, very puzzling. I’d expect this to be covered even in a good journalistic summary of it, but most certainly in the study itself. Do you really not find that problematic? You’re clearly a much more accomplished statistician than I am, but all the serious statistician’s I’ve met are obsessively cautious about such things, so I’m genuinely flabbergasted by what seems like a pretty callous attitude on your part to basic problems with this paper.

@Warren Terra — I take Ezter’s point to me that we’re seeing the modern day re-occurrence of the 1936 Literary Digest election poll that’s prominently covered in (almost) all statistics courses: People get excited by large sample sizes, neglecting the quality of the sample.

#3- I don’t understand why you don’t understand. The paper draws conclusions from a sample that has not been shown to be representative of the population under investigation, and to the contrary bears indications that it is not representative. This means that if the article’s conclusions happen to true, it’s a result of a happy accident. They are not reliable and they add nothing to the store of knowledge. The article’s presence in Science, therefore, is not merely worthless. It is noise that drowns out the ability of competent researchers to talk to each other and to do good work.

#4 – note that they gave the big number (the absolute number in the sample), which is meaningless, while suppressing the little numbers (the percentage who are self-identified and the shares of those who can be sorted into categories), which are highly meaningful.

ME students have five possible sequences for their capstone sequence:

Three credit hours of technical elective credit must be taken from available upper-level College of Engineering courses not specifically listed in the student’s degree requirements. The remaining three credit hours must be selected from the listbelow or an upper-level ROTC course may be substituted.

Embry-Riddle courses inthe general education categories of Humanities,Mathematics, and Social Sciences may be chosen as specified below, assuming prerequisite and corequisite requirements are met.Courses from other institutions are acceptable if they fall into these broad categories and are at the level specified above in theAerospace Engineering vertical outline.

Prior approval by the Mechanical Engineering Department chair is required for any substitutions for general education electives.

Whether their interest in flying was sparked by other pilot family members or from listening to commercial jets and F-16s roar overhead, six female Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University pilots have their eyes set on one goal – winning the 42nd Air Race Classic (ARC).
As the four-year EcoCAR 3 competition comes to a close, Embry-Riddle’s EcoEagles team received two awards including top place for the lowest well-to-wheel greenhouse gas emissions. EcoCAR 3 is an advanced vehicle technology competition, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and General Motors Co.
NASA researchers have discovered thick deposits of ice beneath Mars' surface which will be key to sustaining human explorations on the dry planet, but getting to the frozen water underneath the ice-cemented rock and dust could be a challenge. Embry-Riddle students hope to help solve the challenge by designing a robot to mine the ice, which could be used for human consumption, hygiene, growing of plants and even to make rocket propellant for the journey home.
The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society, today announced the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Prescott chapter as a winner of its fifth annual book drive competition. Embry-Riddle was selected as a winning chapter for being one of three chapters to collect the most books during the competition.

Through technical ingenuity and interdisciplinary teamwork, a group of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University students has discovered a new application of augmented reality that can potentially save lives. Integrating a small unmanned aircraft system, an augmented reality (AR) headset and a neuromuscular gesture recognition armband, the students have developed a system that lets unmanned pilots safely operate remote vehicles while staying mobile and carrying out additional tasks. The system is a wearable technology that mimics natural human-to-human interaction, such as hand signals, for a human-to-vehicle interface.
